Harper’s Weekly 27 August 1870

I am making some final edits to the 1869 chapter. In the meantime, I have began going through some of the papers from 1870 that I printed off…oh 2 years ago now! It has been slow going since I came down with an unshakable head cold turned bacterial infection. I have been fighting this since a week before Christmas. What a way to start the year. It still lingers.

In the cartoon above by 1870 the lines had been drawn. It was not even a year into his term when the enemies all coalesced in the press. I will address some of this as it goes, in the book.
