As many of you know, I am writing a new book on Ulysses S. Grant. I will have free content, a reading list, and some other sample chapters before it is published. At this point, it is going to be a self-published effort because academic presses are atrocious in their pricing, and I want people to actually read the book.
Why a book on Grant? Because most of the biographers, most recently Chernow, get a lot of things wrong, and entertain rumors about the man as if they are legitimate. Not to say all biographies have been awful, the White book is quite good.
But more so, there has never been a political book written about Grant. There has been no detail as to how and why he ascended, and there has never been a defense of the man and his political thought. All these things and more I seek to right.
I am about half way through the bookâbeginning before the Civil War. It is labor intensive. At this moment, I am nearing the 1868 election. The remainder of the book will travel through his two terms and end with his passing and an assessment/conclusion about his place in the pantheon of presidents.
