Is she stunned? She’s stunned. Thanks to WHQR’s reporting we have a couple of gems from our Lords, the self-annointed Leland Town Council.
It seems they are rather perplexed that the citizens would (sniff, small tear by them for effect) be so suspicious of a group of “representatives” who hate them.
Carter was in particular rather butt hurt by the whole thing. Give a look!
But for others, the mood was far from jubilant. Veronica Carter, who has served on the council since 2019, said she found the hostility — and in some cases, threats — from her constituents "incredibly disappointing."
"I hoped we could remember that we're going to be neighbors, regardless of what happens. And that we need to treat each other with a certain amount of respect and civility. That has not happened," she said.
LOL…let’s take this one by one, because, common sense things are tough for Carter to grasp.
First, you note she is rather disappointed IN YOU, dear citizens! Horrors no! That will keep me up at night! But seriously, it takes a grand amount of one’s own self-worth to lecture us about OUR money. It is doubly problematic when you (Veronica) are part of the problem in mismanaging a budget, and then expect the voters to pick up the tab for your, yes your, fuckups.
I have been talking with a lot of people in the county, and this Veronica, is on you:
I am going to make post about this topic at later date, but Carter and the council, is putting the Town of Leland in debt. Loads of debt.
Maybe try to keep your spending below the debt limit that banks will approve? I dunno, just an idea…Veron.
Second: she says she was threatened. I am going to go out on a limb and call that bullshit. Prove it Veron, or sit down, which apparently you do a lot of already.
Third: We are neighbors? It appears Veronica thinks being neighborly is a one way street. We are supposed to be “neighborly” to her, always, but when she acts like a Lord who hates her neighbors—by telling them how great she is—then all is fine. The voter must take it, and then say thank you.
Hard Pass.
Carter does not understand that she is not acting very neighborly when she does not listen to the voters (who are her superior) and then tells them they are wrong. Always, they are wrong in her world. Then we are not neighborly for objecting to her theft of our money for dubious projects. Seriously, stop lying to us. Or did you miss the teaching that you are suppose to not lie to your neighbors nor covet their property?
You forgot to be neighborly. Shame on you, but then again, you have little of that.
Hollis Again Pines for Tax money
I will end on this note about Hollis. Read what he said:
Town manager David Hollis and other employees will be developing the new budget under the 27-cent constraint. Obviously, it won't be able to cover as much as the 39-cent constraint.
I just want to make a fine point here, because it can be missed—I almost did.
Hollis thinks the lowering of the tax hike is a “constraint.” But look, he also thinks the 70% (the 39 cents) raise was a constraint!
So the unelected, and handsomely paid, Hollis has once again waded into political waters.
Tell us Hollis, what number would make you feel like there are no more constraints? Is it when you have all our money?
Thought so.
Hollis dug a hole for himself at the March public Leland Town Hall meeting when it came out he does zero base budgeting to calculate the budget for the 2024-2025 budget year. Many retired people in the Leland community who had been CEOs or had been business experts in their own fields quickly called this out and explained to the council and the public why this is a mistake and is a horrible way to run a town or business. Hollis sat shamelessly in the corner as the speaker tore into the town for hiring a Town Manager and staff that could not put together a plan for a financially responsible budget. When Mr Hollis was hired on as the Town Manger and the public heard of the salary of upwards to $250,000 a yr most people felt this was outrageous. The people were not all on board with this decision by the town but the people at the time felt they could trust the town’s decision because with all the growth maybe this position would help the community budget and manage the town’s interest. If we as the town knew then what we know now I think town would have stood up to this kind of mis management sooner. Hollis is just the right arm of the Mayor and Council . As it was clearly stated in the April 8th meeting the entire council thinks Hollis is doing a great job and many other towns in the state want him and his staff for themselves. The people then quickly responded “then let them have them”.
They do seem surprised.
