I trust that those of you who read this eclectic substack are well, and had a blessed Thanksgiving. I always buy an American wine for the holiday, and usually a Mondavi—an American pioneer and hero who made American wine the superb business it is today, making even the French submit.
It is my favorite holiday outside July 4. Naturally, I am an Americanist, and revere the Founding and all who sacrificed for it, from 1775-1814. Something changed along the way, and that was…Democrats. They became increasingly irrational, hostile to the country, the family, and then individuals of all colors who were opposed to them politically. Soon, Republicans followed and also became progressives, and hence we have had a uniparty for decades. The Republican side of this uniparty is called “conservative inc.” Never a bunch of beautiful losers have you ever met. Thank you National Review, and, in 2012 at least, Mittens Romney for pointing out not just are you unconcerned about losing, but that you actually approve of your losses.1
But the real cause of what ills American culture and politics, not to mention families, is, liberalism, what Democrats call “our democracy.” My Eastern Orthodox Faith is quick to add, man is not a perfect being, and the Evil One has a role to play in all this.
Bear with me for another few paragraphs, I will land this plane.
Much of our present ills is the result of a Democrat Party and their generational bitterness over the loss of their slaves. Not much is made of this, but, the hardening of the Democrat heart has been passed on since the mid 1800s. Yes, it really goes back that far. It is no shock to me that Democrats pretended to switch their race hatred rhetorically to whites because they really did become a party of George Fitzhugh (the southern democrat who said before the war, that, even whites should be enslaved) who all were birthed by Hegel (who argued that people who are not up with the “times” in the name of “progress” deserve to be enslaved.2
In 2018, I picked up Bronze Age Mindset from my frand, BAP, and it was the inspiration for the pseudonym American Savage.3 You see, at the time, the government was trying to silence anyone who disagreed with their dangerous policies, not the least of which was COVID lockdowns, and forced vaccinations. The 2020 election was also stolen, and we needed anonymity to remain 1) employed, and 2) to resist what the ruling class was trying to foist upon us without our consent.
I began to think about how, higher ed, of which I was a part intimately, was bankrupt. I chucked it all for the most part, and started this substack, and began writing a book on Ulysses Grant. Recently I began working on it again. It is ¾ complete. I also started a twatter account, now X, where I have many online anon frands.4
Then I got to thinking about our national predicament, and decided, Savage, there is one more thing you need to do. But how to do it?
While this substack started out as an academic blog, dedicated to the progress of my Grant book, with a few diversions, it became a substack on the local political scene in North Carolina more so.
Somewhere about this time, I watched a couple of channels on youtube by Mortske, and Puddin’s Fab Shop. I thought: why can’t I build a garage like they have? I have some talent at this, after all, I grew up basically not just on a farm, but in a shop.
In that time, I created a youtube channel names after my pseudonym, and dedicated to doing—but mostly mechanics. It is called American Savage Garage. Feel free to subscribe—there is no paid option—it is free.
You see, if there is one thing many younger men have noticed is that they are constantly attecked. RFK Jr has recently popularized opposition to this attaq on men by emphasizing that our food and health system purposely attaqs them to make them weak. There is a reason our food and drink is filled with estrogen. Men, real men, are the present day forgotten man.
You can get a sense of what I came to realize about academics and men in culture in the above little rant I made on the Garage channel in the video above.
The garage channel, was my small effort to get men doing things again, and helping them learn how to do it, to reclaim their nature—men cannot sit idle, for they lose their purpose when they do. I was born in the west, and you might say, I have a western upbringing on a farm—it has always stuck with me. Western men are spirited, and, doers. What they do not know, they self motivate to find out.
If you watched the video, then you now know: we are not staying in North Carolina. I can hear the Leland town council cheering from here.
We are leaving, but not anytime soon. We have a homestead to build. While I remain here, I will continue to write about NC politics, and the local government on this page. However, I will be splitting my time between building a new home, and preparing our present home for sale.
A while back, a reader, I think it was Bob, asked, a question about those who will remain here or leave. I wrote, that is a question only the individual can answer. For us, it became, an easy choice—it is time to go.
So we bought over 10 acres in another state a while ago. At my age, this is a huge deal, but one I will welcome. I will never retire, so…it is what I must do to preserve liberty and owned space. It is remarkable to me, we have had 2 or 3 men on my street pass away soon after they retired. This is not a coincidence. Once we lose purpose, we are done.
We can’t afford to wait for the entire country to get its act together. We have children to raise now. Schools to build now. Communities to strengthen now. We want to live well now.
~Lane Scott
I was recently reading the substack of Lane Scott, here. You can get a sense of the growing efforts from many who are leaving cities, buying acreage, and, in extreme cases, going off grid.
Lane Scott captures the imperative on all this in the above quote. I would add, all need owned space. You do not have owned space in an HOA on small land plots. If you feel at all like you are missing something, losing something, and believe time is running out for you, then maybe you consider doing the same.
We have a lot to be personally thankful for. But as a nation, Trump has given us more to be nationally thankful for.
NC is in a tough spot. I can only tell you, this is the way it has been in this state for decades. Now that the GA is lacking a Republican supermajority, wait for the problems—they will come. But, not to end on a sad note, I will always love this state. It is certainly better than California and New York—it just has this desire to become like them right now.
I will do all I can to stop it before I pull away loaded for one….last….time.
You will notice this cultish band of con inc Republicans all oppose Donald Trump, and for a reason—they want nothing to change.

Outside of BAP, my influences have always been Leo Strauss and Harry Jaffa, who was personally my teacher.

That is awesome Savage. We too have decided it is time to pick up our roots and plant our family outside of Leland and Brunswick County. After decades of my family being rooted in Brunswick we will be settling down on about 20 acres a few counties away. The slow pace of where we once lived has turn into a nightmare. We find ourselves stuck in traffic jams every day and the noise has increased from the near by roads and not to mention amount of noise from apartments and townhouses over running. Locals are not even able to enjoy our beaches and water ways without being told we have to pay to move freely in spaces for generations we have enjoyed.
Time to leave! FANTASTIC! I heard it through the grapevine you had plans, but good to hear it from the source. I'll definitely be following your progress. To say I'm envious is an understatement. May THE FORCE be with you. Looking forward to your journey! Many thanks for posting. ("Driver's seat!" How long has it been since I heard that! 👍🏻👍🏻 😁 )
