OK, so the short session of the NC Leg ended in July. A lot of people are all madz about it. Why? Because the Leland recall bill never made it out of committee.
In fact IF you look, nothing….NOTHING made it out of the Local Gvt. Committee. Go ahead. Go look for yourself.
Now a lot of people are pissed off about this, and that is….imprudent. In fact, I am hearing that people are so mad at Iler, they are considering voting for a Democrat. Ummm….seriously?
If you want to bring in McHugh and Sluggo politics you go right ahead and do that jack. Shame on you in the process.
We have enough problems in this county than to have to deal with transplant northerners who bring New York politics with them. There’s a reason natives of this state and county are NOT Democrats. You want Brunswick to look like, New York? Your non-support of Iler is a step in that direction.
Hard Pass.
Let me explain.
I have not only been at the legislature MANY times, but have lobbied them. I know how the GA in this state works. And, in a short session, you are LUCKY to get anything out of it. It is possible, but usually, nothing happens when there are oh so minor things like a frikin budget and a wreckless governor staring you in the face. So, the GA took care of a bigger problem than Let’s go Brenda, and that was, the state budget.
Here is a run down of what happened.
My ire in this post is not to say I am happy there was no movement on the Leland recall bill, but that Iler had nothing to do with it NOT PASSING. Literally, Iler had no control or authority over this. Who did? The legislature as a whole, and the chairs of said committee. And as I noted, nothing happened in the Local Gvt. Cmte this session.
The anger at Iler is thus misplaced. Be smart, and be prudent. You are not going to get anything you like from any Democrat running against Iler—you will get woke shit in Brunswick county and even higher taxes. Do not forget, Democrats Sluggo and McHugh were FOR the 70% tax increase. All Democrats are for higher taxes and chopping off your child’s sex organs. Hard hard pass.
Speaking of political races, both Iler and Williams are way ahead of the pack. So is Rabon:
Sen. Bill Rabon is the top fundraiser among Brunswick County candidates with $444,426, far more than the $1,620 raised by his Democratic challenger Katherine Randall.
Rabon was elected in 2011 and described himself as one of the five most powerful members of the North Carolina Senate a decade ago. He is the chair of the Senate Rules and Operations Committee — an influential position over which bills move forward in the General Assembly — and the Finance Committee.
And our good friend Williams:
Commissioner Frank Williams has raised $109,371 for his District 5 reelection campaign, significantly more than other candidates. He was elected in 2012 and represents Brunswick County as a member of the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and as chair of the Cape Fear Rural Planning Organization.
Williams’ top donors include a cumulative $10,000 from Cape Fear Engineering partners and $6,500 from CaptiveAire Systems owner Robert Luddy. Luddy is the founder of North Carolina-based charter schools Franklin Academy and Thales Academy.
We are of course no fans of Williams, but until there is a challenger to him, we are stuck with him, and his corruption is better than any wannabe slave owner in the Democrat party.
Right to recall should be in the NC constitution for everyone but Iler's bill was never going to be a magic bullet. The 25% of the electorate requirement is too heavy a lift to make recall the answer. We need to win at the ballot box to remove this town council. Since spring I have been aggressively questioning my neighbors and while they are vaguely aware of the local issues they feel its so much better than "up north" or in the case of the lady recently transplanted from CA I met at the blood drive 2 hours ago, better than "out west". I expect the next town budget will help to motivate people, but so far a 52% tax increase in two years has had no detectable effect.
